Alongside the Venetian Heritage Foundation, Dior organized a unique charity evening on Apr. 20, 2024, in the heart of the Arsenale Vecchio. The Arsenale Vecchio of Venice is a symbol of the history and grandeur of the Serenissima. Built as early as the 12th century, it was for several centuries the world’s most important shipyard, reflecting the city’s economic, political, and military power. Since 1999 this iconic site has played host to the International Art and Architecture Exhibitions of La Biennale di Venezia, as well as to numerous contemporary art exhibitions, while the Arsenale Vecchio, still occupied by the Italian navy, is usually closed to the public. The Arsenale Vecchio Outside the Arsenale VecchioEntitled Naumachia, the theme of the ball takes after the tradition of staging naval battles for entertainment that originated in the Roman Empire and was in vogue at European royal courts in the 17th and 18th centuries—an unprecedented celebration of Dior’s eternal fascination with art, and the house’s ongoing desire to let culture and the many facets of creativity shine forth. Held on the occasion of the 60th Venice Biennale, this exceptional event was in honor of raising funds for the preservation and promotion of the Serenissima’s legacy, notably the restoration of the Arsenale’s Porta Magna, and that of the Ca’ d’Oro museum.
